East West MMA
I recently attended a couple of classes at this gym. The facility was really huge. Very impressive. There was even a trampoline int he back of the room that jumped into a big foam pit. My kids played back there while I tried out the classes.
There was a lot of cardio workout stuff like pushups, etc. As well as some specific drills to burn calories while working marial arts moves (we did a punch-punch-knee-sprawl combo several times.) Seems great for losing weight.
The floor is a very springy material like would be used in gymnastics. Very good for grappling or falling on without getting hurt. It does leave a few carpet burns if you don’t wear the right gear though.
Instructor is a black belt in a couple of striking arts (plus he is really good on the ground.)
The students seem friendly and of a lower level of experience/competition than I expected. I felt this was a good thing, as I didn’t walk in to an MMA class where a brute was trying to grind my face into a cage… I went into a friendly atmosphere where we were all working our striking and grappling.
I’ll definitely be trying it more.
